WHEN CLIENTS BECOME HEROES (IAN & LARISSA: A VIDEO)

Ian and Larissa's faces are no strangers to this blog. I first met them in 2008 and since then I have had many wonderful opportunities to befriend and photograph them. (See photos from their wedding here) Words can't express how much I love and respect this couple. I don't say this to raise them up on some high pedestal of praise. I say it because they are 100% human just like everybody else. Yet they have graced numerous heartbreaking challenges in a way that is downright shocking to the world.

Their story has brought a lot of response to my blog. I've read hundreds of comments - many of them kind, many of them confused, many of them angry. Ian and Larissa's love story doesn't make sense! At least in the way we normally look at love and especially marriage. Today, Desiring God released a video that features Ian and Larissa's story (and a couple of my photos!). It's a wonderful video that tells their powerful story and explains how they can still love and support each other as husband and wife.

I can't expect every one reading this to understand why they did what they did. But I think it's a powerful testament to the sacrificial love shown by Jesus Christ in the Bible, one that has transformed my life personally as well. It's hard to attend a wedding ceremony without hearing 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8. After photographing Ian and Larissa's wedding this passage became a lot more real to me.
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never ends.
