2016 was unlike any year of my life. Why? Well the main reason...I got married!! Planning my wedding made me pull back from a lot of work. My off-season wasn't spent rebranding, networking or blogging. I poured every waking moment into planning my wedding in just 6 months. Stefan and I were married here in Minneapolis in the Spring, flew to Paris for our honeymoon, and came home to a new life! Because of all this I took on less clients than usual and second shot for other photographers a whole bunch. After 10 years of running my business, I was the assistant again! And you know what? I learned so much more than I anticipated. I highly recommend it for any photographer who's been the "lead" for a while. It was refreshing to take a step back and remember why I love this job so much. It's not about calling the shots and getting paid a lot. It's about connecting with people, listening to them, loving on them, and telling their story. It's about a community of artists supporting one another, not competing with one another. And as a newlywed myself, I could suddenly connect with each bride and groom on a new level. I found myself going nuts taking as many portraits, not just candids, of the guests as possible because I personally understood how much the they mattered to the bride and groom! They were mailed save the dates and invites and fed an expensive meal. And, heck, appetizers aren't cheap either! The bride and groom probably won't even eat any! Let me photograph those too! I had brand new eyes. Meanwhile, I got to work alongside some of the most amazing girl-boss photographers in the Twin Cities. Melissa Oholendt, Janelle Elise, Jaimee Morse, Nicola Harger - you all rock! Thank you for having me along with you this year. Your beautiful clients make appearances in a few of the photos below. To my own 2016 clients, thank you for flying me to New York, Colorado, Maryland, Wisconsin, and Maine! I'm forever wowed by how adventurous, creative, and kind-hearted my clients are. Thank you for making 2016 such a bright year!
From the first email I exchanged with Ian and Susanna I knew these two sincere, creative, gentle hearted people would throw an unforgettable wedding. And what a bundle of love it was! The great thing about a wonderful couple is that they're usually surrounded by wonderful friends. And that was definitely the case with this wedding. I think my favorite part was photographing Ian and Susanna's interactions with their wedding party. They belong to a very close knit circle of friends who welcomed me in without hesitation. It was such an honor to be their photographer and I look back on these photos very fondly.
