shooting for the NEXT promo

Hey therrrr!

I hope you are all enjoying the approaching springtime. I'm not sure that the snow here in MD will ever fully melt (there are still plenty of parking spots around town that are blocked by mounds of it), but I'm enjoying the occasional sunshine a great deal. I've been thinking about warmth and the upcoming months a lot recently. I'm excited to get back into shooting again. I miss the crazy wedding weekends and sore muscles I never knew I had from shooting and hauling around my equipment.

So, while I wait I thought I'd post about a little something I shot back in January. As some of you may know, my brother Mike works for a company called Vinegar Hill Picture Works. He and David Altrogge, his business partner, do all sorts of videos, short films, and documentaries all around the country and occasionally around the world! I had the awesome opportunity of joining him on a shoot he did in New York City for the upcoming NEXT conference.

It was a little dream come true to finally see my brother and his team in action and take some stills for them "on set". And they did an INCREDIBLE job on the promo video. Check it outtt!

Snowmageddon

Here in Maryland we have just been hit by Snowmageddon. If you've been following me on twitter you've seen my updates as it's been coming down. In the end, nearly 30 inches of snow has been gracefully dumped on us and it has literally shut down the D.C. area. The monuments are closed, the above ground metro shut down, and every sort of church service, class, after-school activity, and flight cancelled. My best friend is stuck in Florida. Poor her. ;)
I decided that I would try and venture outside to take photos this afternoon. I'm in a Black and White film class at school where we're going to develop our own stuff (I'm excited, it's been a while) so I thought why not try and document some history on film. It's the biggest storm to hit this area in almost 90 years!

Below is my dear car Raulf and his buddies. I like that you can see a couple inches of a rear view mirror and nothing else...

I couldn't see my boots but I could certainly feel the snow in them...
The little snow fault line I created. Let's just say 5 minutes out there was enough for me. My legs were freezing.

Please feel free comment with things I can do while I'm snowed in! So far I've caught up on all the tv shows I've ever watched ever, painted my nails, stared out my window, and eaten a lot. It's amazing to me how the whole world can be put on hold because of this white stuff that falls from the sky. I love it.

Happy Groundhog Day! and other things...

Today is my very favorite holiday of the year. I love that it's now 2010 in the United States of America and we have an entire day dedicated to listening to a groundhog predict the future. I thing that's incredible. Today, Punxsutawney Phil once again saw his shadow, which means 6 more weeks of winter. Or as NationalGeographic.com says, "Regardless of the weather prediction on Groundhog Day, Phil "speaks" to his human caretakers, known as the Inner Circle, in Groundhogese and tells them his forecast. The Inner Circle then translates Phil's words for the world to hear--or so they say." Hahah, I'm not really sure this holiday could be any more "me". I think it's brilliant. It's definitely the most ridiculous holiday and therefore my absolute favorite.

In other news, I am incredibly honored to be featured in the most recent issue of the Utterly Engaged ezine. Amelia Lyon, Max Wanger, and Jasmine Star among many other amazing photographers are also featured in this issue so I am very honored indeed. Check out the full issue of the e-magazine here. It features the lovely Mr. and Mrs. Gallo wedding from last March.
